3-day Husky Safari in Ivalo, in the northernmost Lapland, 3 days

3 days

Challenging

Three days with your own husky team in the wilderness!. Guided Husky safari in the northernmost Lapland is an experience you will never forget.

Wide space, relaxing silence and numerous islands of lake Inari. Words are hardly enough to describe the feeling.

The Alaskan huskies are friendly, social and active dogs, which are very eager to run and pull the sledge. They like working!

Sled-dog ride is a great way to experience the Lappish nature in winter. In mid-winter, when it is dark outside and you are using headlamps, it is really exciting. In spring, when it is really bright and white outside, it is really enjoyable. For the overnight safari you'll get your own sledge pulled by 4-5 huskies, which means you get to mush your team the whole time and train your skills in mushing in many ways. in many kinds of terrains.

The route traverses variable terrain and gives you a possibility to enjoy beautiful Lappish landscape. After a few hours you will notice that fresh air and all the excitement have made you hungry and you'll welcome a lunch break by open fire. Afetr the lunch dog teams are eager to continue and later on your will arrive at the wilderness cottage. After arrival the dogs are taken care first by you and the guide together, which is highly appreciated your hard-working friends. Only after that it is time to prepare dinner and get a good and tight sleep in the warmth of the cabin and a sleeping bag.

On the second day you will make a day tour from the wilderness cabin on lake Inari and its islands. The vast wilderness lake offers great views of wide open space, numerous islands and relaxing silence.

    Exclusions
      Please note

Long overnight husky safaris take place in small groups of 6 people. You will sleep all in one big room, there is no privacy. Every participant has her/his own team of huskies to take care of during the safari.

The weather conditions can be extreme and driving distances long and therefore this safari does not suite for children under 12 years. We recommend a shorter 2-hour and 4-hour safari for families. Normal physical condition is required.

        What to bring

In addition to the winterwear given to you by the husky farm, you need warm clothes such as long-armed underwear, fleece or pullover, warm socks (preferably woolly ones), ski pants and coat and a warm cap. Just keep in mind that many layers of clothes keep you warmer than one thick layer. Hand and feet warmers might help as well as an extra balaclava you can change when the other one becomes wet from breathing.

For the safari, you do also need your personal hygienic things and bed linen which you can use inside the sleeping back. Some people like to wear goggles, but as we do not have them, you should bring your own ones. During the spring months, sunglasses are also important, in case of a sunny day.

In addition to the already mentioned items, it is good to have some extra clothing to change. You have full board during the safari, but maybe you also like to have some chocolate or other snack of your own.
