August Holiday Week in Ylläs, Lapland

August Holiday Week in Ylläs, Lapland

8 days

Moderate

Late summer in August - early September is the best time for mountain biking and hiking in Lapland. Rent a cabin for a week and and a guide to start with.

Ylläs consists of two villages Ylläsjärvi and Äkäslompolo in north-western Lapland right next to Ylläs-Pallas national park. There are 340 km of hiking routes and the 50km route from Ylläs to Levi as well as many shorter local routes for mountain biking. There are 6 fells, 477-719 metres above the sea level.

On your first full day try hiking with a local guide who helps you get started and feel the Nordic nature around you in a new way. Next day try mountain biking in the best trails in Finland, also with the help of a local guide to get you started. The guide will tell you how the trails work and how to get around so that you can do it by yourself later during the week if you like.

After these two sessions it is easy to start making your own trips. In late August nights are getting darker again and first northern lights can be seen. Northern lights are even more spectaculous in the autumn when reflected from the water surface. We can also arrange for you a kayak tour or a horse riding tour.
