Ylläs is the largest ski resort in Finland. The Ylläs hill itself is 719m high. There are two villages, one on the northern side called Äkäslompolo and one on the southern side called Ylläsjärvi. Äkäslompolo is the original ski village. By skiing, the Finns understand cross-country skiing, which takes place on ski tracks in nature. In the Ylläs area, there are altogether 330 kilometers of ski tracks, out of which 38 kilometers are illuminated. The downhill skiing slopes are located within 3-5km outside the villages and there is a ski bus driving between the villages and the slopes.
In addition to skiing, you can go fat biking, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice-fishing, or visit a reindeer or husky farm and take a safari in snowy winter nature. Please note that the activities can be modified to meet your preferences.
Stay in a small log cabin located in a silent place but yet close to the restaurants, safari start places, and grocery stores. The cabin will be chosen based on the number of bedrooms needed. Each cabin has its own kitchen, sauna, and living room with a fireplace.
