Family short break with Santa and Salla, 4 nights

5 days

Easy

A long weekend from Wednesday to Sunday with a meeting with Santa and winter activities such as snowshoeing, husky and reindeer safari and downhill skiing or snowmobiling.

Salla is a small ski village in eastern Lapland It is not as known as the bigger ski villages and therefore less crowded. There are very high-class log apartments with 3 bedrooms in each located in a beautiful landscape a few kilometres outside the ski village. What the best, next to the cabins there is Salla Reindeer Park with full catering services as well as husky, snowshoeing and reindeer programs available within walking distance.

Activities in Salla:

1.Northern Lights Hunting by reindeer 3h or a daytime safari 3h

Our Northern Light hunting trip starts from the Reindeer Park after the darkness falls. In night time our reindeer are connected to each other so you don’t have to worry about anything else but enjoy the ride Our route, about 6 kilometres, passes through a snowy forest and open swamp areas. During the ride, we will stop at a corral, where we feed our female and calf reindeer. Halfway we will have a bit longer break and make a big fire next to a swamp. Red flames and open fire will make you feel warm and create a cozy atmosphere. Around the fire, you can enjoy hot berry juice or hot chocolate.
One can go a bit further from the fireplace, in complete darkness, and try to hunt the Northern Lights. Swamp opens to the north and there’s no light pollution so if you are lucky, that is a very good place to see the auroras.

2. Snowshoeing trip

This traditional way of moving in the snow is really fun and easy to learn. On the trip, you can advance on your own pace so you will have time to enjoy nature in peace. From the wintery forest, you will find lots of interesting things. Our guide will tell you about nature, animals and pretty much anything you want to ask. The tour will end in a Lappish hut where a 3-course dinner is served.
Base track is quite easy to pretty much everyone can do this trip. The walking distance is about 3 to 4 kilometres but can be adapted to the group.

3. Husky safari 2h

On our Husky Safari, you will feel like the hero of the wilderness. Enjoy the untouched wilderness and feel the speed of the huskies. Before the safari, our guide will give you a driving lesson and tell you how to handle the sleigh. In every sleigh there is one place for passenger and driver is behind the sleigh. Passenger and driver will change places half away so everyone gets a chance to drive.
On the safari, you will get to drive a team of dogs across varying Lappish terrain. Along the way, we take care of you and serve some hot drinks and sweet buns. You can also grill a sausage by an open fire. If you want to have a real break from everyday worries you should have a day trip. There will be more driving, more time to enjoy and our guide will prepare a proper lunch in the wilderness.

4. Snowmobiling to the top of Ruuhitunturi or downhill ski-school

Both these activities take place in Salla ski village where you will be driven. If you choose the snowmobile safari you will drive to the top of an Arcic hill two adults sharing a snowmobile and children sitting in sleigh. if you choose downhill skiing, you will first get rental equipment and then have a skiing instructor teaching you the basics of downhill skiing for 1h and 40 minutes. After the activity, you can have lunch (not included so you can choose what you want).

Rovaniemi is the regional capital of Lapland. It is located at the Arctic circle. It is also known as the home town of Santa Claus. You can meet Santa throughout the year in his post office at the Arctic Circle. We recommend starting your visit from the Arkikum museum, which gives you facts first abut the Arctic.
