Aurora Borealis is a natural phenomenon with the highest probability to occur in September-October and again in February-March. The northern part of Lapland, however, belongs to the auroral zone. You can see auroras there throughout the winter on three out of four nights, even though you cannot see them if the weather is cloudy. You need a clear and dark night. The best time of the day is plus minus 2 hours from midnight.

The wilderness hotel is located by the 3rd biggest lake of Finland, lake Inari. The village is in the south-eastern end of the lake, 45 kilometres east of Ivalo. The hotel has ten aurora bubbles, small glass igloos, which offer a unique way to watch at the northern lights safely and warm through the night from your bed. There are also a couple of bigger igloos for an extra price of 142€/igloo = 71€/person in case you need more comfort as the small igloos only have a toilet indoors and shower in a separate building.

The winter season opens late November and closes early April. In November- December it is getting darker and darker until it is a polar night, which ends by mid-January when the days start rapidly getting longer and longer again.

Activities:

Husky tour (2h+1h) takes you across lake Inari and through the snowy landscape. Nothing beats the feeling you get when mushing an eager team of huskies. After the 2-hour dog sledding, lunch will be served in the husky farm's guest room.

Northern Lights Snowshoe tour (2.5h) allows you to enter the snowy forest and get up to the hills to see the Nellim village and the wide open views of lake Inari. Snowshoeing is easy but gives you a good deal of exercise. Alternatively, you can choose an aurora camp by sleigh or aurora hunt by car..

Reindeer Day with snowmobile (4h) will give you an insight of Sámi culture and the way of life in the north. You will hear about reindeer herding and can feed the reindeer. Soup lunch will be served by open fire. During the safari you will also stop at the Nellim church and at the Russian border.

Please note! We did not include any aurora safaris in the basic package as you are located by a lake in the wilderness so you only need to walk out to see the northern lights. We recommend booking additionally an aurora hunting tour by car taking you to the eastern border and to the famous Paatsjoki bridge where the northern lights can be seen reflecting from the everflowing river. Price for this is 115€/person.
